Did You Know?

Metals Service Centers have 9.25x the injury rate of the petroleum refining industry.

(3.7 for Metals Service Centers v. 0.4 for Petroleum Refineries)

To help our member companies go beyond compliance and set the foundation for cultural change, MSCI and Amerisafe Group are delivering a metals safety workshop series that will develop middle to upper managers and front-line supervisors as safety leaders.

On average, an injury costs $117,000 in direct and indirect costs.

At a 10% profit margin, that’s $1.7M in sales to pay for one injury.

Strengthen your company’s profitability with this affordable, online workshop series that brings best practices proven to transform organizations with multiple cultures and inexplicable injuries to one with consistent culture across divisions and world-class safety performance.

According to a study by Gint, Inc., turnover for disengaged employees is 12x higher than for engaged employees.

Through interactive, small-class-size workshops with Optimum safety professionals, participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to effect lasting change in their organizations.

Comprehensive, Affordable AND LIVE ONLINE!

Facilitators will lead each workshop live online through a classroom complete with professional audio/visual equipment, whiteboard technology, and multi-screen viewing for a seamless experience. Though classes are priced separately, it is strongly suggested to begin with Fundamentals of Safety and register for workshops in the order below.

Safety Leadership

Simply put, leadership sets the foundation to achieve a winning culture. Leaders in all capacities have the ability to help others succeed both personally and professionally. However, those leaders must first understand their role and develop the knowledge and skills necessary to lead cultural change. This workshop sets the foundation to recognize what a great safety culture looks like and understand their part in achieving “great”. It introduces supervisor, manager, department head or any other staff employee to roles and expectations as safety leaders.

High Impact Observations

A high impact observation is any conversation with an employee initiated by a supervisor or manager in which exposure is observed, feedback is provided, and a two-way conversation is held to strengthen the use of best practices. This workshop will help supervisors develop an ability to recognize safe behaviors and communicate insights to engage employees and build relationships, not simply instruct.

Physical Hazard Identification

Area inspections may be standard procedures for supervisors, but how can inspections be leveraged to increase effectiveness? Science has taught us that by learning to analyze hazards as they interact with behaviors, safety leaders can turn routine inspections into opportunities for employee engagement. Changing the approach and process can change the output – leading to leverage for future impact. Leaders will learn how to leverage skills in Action Orientation as they apply to Physical Hazard Identification and exposure reduction.

Approximately 9 months.

I’m considering an OSHA 30-Hour course for my supervisors. How does this series compare to the Fundamentals of Safety workshop?

The OSHA 30-Hour course contains a broad set of topics that will be wider than necessary for most workplaces. The Metal Safety Workshop Series are tightly targeted to the metals industry. They also include soft skills for the supervisor to understand their role in identifying exposures and mitigating the risks to both the employee and the employer.  Amerisafe Group offers the OSHA courses if the 30-Hour card is required by a customer.

I’ve taken the OSHA 30-Hour course. Do I need to take the Fundamentals of Safety workshop?

If you completed the OSHA 30-Hour course within the last three years and have been using the knowledge gained with good retention, you do not need to take Fundamentals of Safety and can proceed to the first workshop, Safety Leadership.

I’ve taken the OSHA 10-Hour course. Do I need to take the Fundamentals of Safety workshop?

Yes. The OSHA 10-Hour course is designed for front-line workers, not supervisors. It is too light in content to provide an adequate soft skills and hazard identification foundation.
