The Metals Service Center Institute is the premier trade association in the metals industry.

Membership Types & Applications

MSCI offers several classes of membership that, together, make the Institute accessible to almost any company in the metals value chain.

Service Centers

Active members operate metals service centers; facilities that inventory metals, provide first-stage fabrication services (cut-to-length, slitting, etc.), and distribute metals to a wide range of manufacturing customers, processors, or other service centers.

Metal Producers

Associate members are companies that perform metal production or processing or finishing using steel, aluminum, stainless steel, alloys, copper and brass and tool steels. Some associate members convert metal in a finished form such as tubing, perforated metal products, or they create special grades and tempers.

Affiliate Members

(Effective January 1, 2019)

Affiliate members are companies who provide cutting, coating, heat treating, processing, finishing, transportation, consulting, material handling, financial (banking) services and other products and services (which shall not include the publication or dissemination of news and information, digital or otherwise, regarding the metals industry either for a direct or indirect fee from a subscriber or a member of the metals industry) to Active Members and/or Associate Members. Affiliate Members, by definition, cannot maintain owned or consigned inventory of metal products for resale, unless the inventory is of products upon which dues are not based.

International Members

MSCI also offers Active, Associate, and Affiliate membership to companies that are located outside of the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Associate Trading Organizations

Any corporation, partnership, sole proprietorship or individual organized in the United States, Canada or Mexico, with annual sales to North American service center members (Active members), from owned or consigned inventory in North America of at least $50,000,000 per year, who sales force represents a non-North American corporation with a non-North American production facility or facilities engaged in the production of one or more of the metal products upon which Active Member dues are based.

International Trade Associations

Associations based outside of North America whose membership is comprised primarily of companies who would be eligible for Active, Associate or Affiliate membership in the Institute if they maintained a physical location or facility in the United States, Canada or Mexico are also eligible for membership. Member companies of an International Trade Association member (ITA) would be conferred the same meeting attendance and seminar participation benefits of regular North American members.
